Nick Machin (Organ Scholar 2014-2017)
Nick is Organ Scholar Elect of Somerville College, and is due to assume his role in October whilst reading PPE. His ten years as a musician have encompassed a diverse range of interests.
As a pianist, Nick is soon to take an ATCL classical performance diploma. He participates regularly in competitions, having won the title of Senior Recitalist at the Mid-Sussex Festival, and most recently gaining first place in the prestigious Senior Championship at Brighton’s Springboard Festival. Beyond classical music, he is an avid jazz pianist, performing extensively both solo and as part of a jazz quartet.
Nick has been playing the organ for three years, gaining ABRSM Grade 8 Distinction last year, and accompanies services regularly in Sussex. He has a particular interest in organ music of the late Romantic era. This summer, he is due to appear at Norwich Cathedral accompanying a choir tour. Nick’s other interests include cooking, reading and running.
